Judo has changed — and not always for the better.

At Grip Grind Glory, we bring back what made the sport exciting in the first place:
freedom, flow, and real fighting spirit.

Our ruleset is built for adults who want challenge, creativity, and full engagement — without the bureaucracy.
This is judo how it should feel.

​

Match Format

• Match Time: 4 minutes
• Golden Score: 2 minutes
• Continuation: The fight continues on the ground — fewer stoppages, more flow
• Leg Grabs: Allowed again (safely and responsibly)

The goal: more movement, less interruption.

Scoring System

We use a modern, simplified version of classic judo scoring — easy for fighters and spectators.

 

Points

• Koka — 3 points (minor advantage, sitting down)

• Yuko — 5 points (strong advantage)

• Wazari — 7 points (clean technique with strong impact)

• Ippon — 10 points (decisive score)

 

How to Win

• 2 Ippons = win,
  OR

• Highest score at the end

Four wazaris also equal two ippons, rewarding consistent dominance.

 

Osaekomi (Hold-Down) Times

Groundwork matters again — with a clear progression:

• 10–15 sec → Koka (3 pts)

• 15–20 sec → Yuko (5 pts)

• 20–24 sec → Wazari (7 pts)

• 25 sec → Ippon (10 pts)

More movement. More transitions. More strategy.
